A quick thank you

Welp, the 'HelloQuizzy' quiz contest is over, and I got an e-mail about the results tonight. They e-mail told me this: "During the contest, 'The Office' Survival Test had 55 takers and earned a rating of 313 stars. It ranked #51 for popularity and #20 for quality." So no, I didn't win the contest - but still, I didn't do half bad, really.

I just wanted to thank everyone who took the test and/or voted for me. The fact that I got as high as I did makes me happy. Thanks so much guys, you rock!  ^__^

PS - I recently finished the 3rd book in the 'Twilight' series. LOVE IT. ...So how come I can't find a nice Edward Cullen of my own? Waah.

ME! (B&W)
Hello!
I know I haven't posted anything in what seems like forever (long story), but I have a cheap, shameless plug to make.

I got bored & made a quiz based on the NBC show, 'The Office'. I also entered it in a contest to win $1000. I doubt I'd win, but if people vote for it & it gets either the most votes or is the most popular, I'll win. Like I said, I'm not expecting any miracles - but if people could take my quiz & vote for it, I'd love it. Thanks everyone!

Goodbye Jenny

  • May. 23rd, 2008 at 9:48 PM
Sad Namine

My cousin Jenny died sometime yesterday afternoon. She was suffering from cancer - first from brain cancer, and then it spread to her spine. She's been suffering for a long while now... my family's been waiting for her to pass on for weeks now.

I don't know how I feel. I should feel distraught & be crying, but instead I just feel..... nothing. Numb.
I guess it's just how I handle things. Bury them. Deep. Ignore them. Pretend they're not there.

Between my other cousins fighting sickness (one battling breast cancer, one with a recently-discovered liver disease, one needs a new kidney, one with bad blood), my aunt having health problems (might have to have her thyroid removed or something), having no money, being in debt (well over $1000), ending my serious relationship with my boyfriend, having no car or apartment of my own, not being able to get a medical assistant job, and now my cousin finally passing away..... I'd really like something to go right for me, or at least my family already. How much more can we take?

At least iParty gave me Saturday & Sunday off, so I'll have some time w/ my family. Wake's on Monday, funeral's on Tuesday. I'll post the obituary soon.

My B-Day!!! (so far) I'm 24!!!

Anyone who knows me, knows that 'things' aren't what's most important to me. Just had to preface my remarks with that - now here's what I got for my b-day (lol):
- Mom & Dad = a blue shirt (girly!), a pair of jeans, 'Enchanted' on DVD, 'Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shambala' on DVD, 'Muppet Show' season 2 on DVD
- Amy = 'Ghosthunters' season 1 on DVD
- Emily = a Nintendo Wii & 'Rayman: Raving Rabbids' video game
- Mary = 'Blackadder' (the complete series set!) on DVD

So I opened presents around lunchtime, watched a few 'Muppet Show' episodes w/ my family, had my ice cream cake in the afternoon, and Mary & I went to the 4pm mass (Mom, Dad, & Amy are going to the 7pm). It's been a really nice day! Quiet, and spending time with my family - I know I do this all the time, but it's really what makes me the happiest, too. ^___^

Also, thank you very much to the people who wished me a 'happy birthday' so far today: Jen, Ashley, Liz, Matthew, Maisie, 'Stebia'/Olivia... and Borders, TokyoPop, Astrology.com, Jippy.com, BirthdayAlarm.com, & Clairol (LOL!!!).

If I haven't heard from you, don't worry - I know who cares about me, and I know that your thoughts are with me often. *^.^*

Wii Wii Wii, all the way home!

ME! (B&W)
Emily got me a Wii for my b-day/graduation present!

A WIIIIIIII!!!!!!!

::does hyper-happy dance::

So b/c I'm a huge dork, I've already made 'mii' avatars of my entire family (intermediate family), convinced my dad to play Wii boxing & Wii baseball (if anyone knows my dad, this is quite an accomplishment), played a HUGE chunk of 'Rayman: Raving Rabbids' (more on that in a sec), and now both of my arms are very, very sore from 'Wii-overload'. Waah..... totally worth it, though. LOL!

'Rayman: Raving Rabbids' = this is a game that Em got me with my Wii. It's basically a bunch of mini-games in one big game, and the mini-games are incredibly silly and stupid in detail - so therefore, they are perfect for me. (Lol!)

They include (in no particular order):
- hitting a bunny on the head w/ a hammer repeatedly in a set amount of time, hoping to get a certain size bump on his head
- swinging a cow around over your head, then trying to throw it a certain distance
- keeping 4 bunnies shut in their respective outhouses (yes, you read that right) with doors that keep swinging open, before they scream from embarassment & hit you with a plunger
- racing other bunnies on a warthog/pig
- staying 'alive' while you attack bunnies with plungers
- bunny dance-offs
- racing to give a bunny a package before it explodes
- and more!

So... yes. Very silly. But like I said, that kinda thing works for me. My dad walked in the den just as I was slapping bunnies for singing off-key, LOL! ::is weird::

Anyway... yeah. Hooray for my new Wii! (I gotta get 'Super Smash Bros.' sometime so I can beat up my sisters as Link or Pikachu, LOL!)

I'm very tired, so I'm going to make this short & hopefully elaborate later.

Anime Boston was awesome. I got the autograph of one awesome voice actress, and got my photo taken with another. Both were extremely sweet & awesome.

(Ashe - I SWEAR I didn't forget about your request, but unfortunately I didn't get to meet Brad Swaile. I'm very sorry!)

I strted reading & hot hooked on two new series: 'Tsubasa' & 'xxxHolic'. I also got video footage of two events: 'Anime Unscripted', and 'Human Cosplay Chess', which Chris was in. I am in the process of making copies for people.

That's it for now - there's a LOT more going in, but I've been physically exhausted for at least a week, and don't want to be on the comp long. I promise, more info later!

Anime Boston, Part 2

Okay - I'm gonna make this LJ post shorter than I'd like to, b/c I'm worn out & kinda tired. SO -

Anime Boston '08 has been the best con I've been to yet, and '08 has (IMO) been the best Anime Boston yet. Things that have happened in the last two days (in no particular order):

- I got told by a fellow Otaku that I was the best Sakura they'd seen at the con all day (Friday)
- Someone asked me (as Sakura) to hug a friend of theirs-twice
- I got an Anime Boston patch, a 2008 t-shirt, and AB pins from the years '05-'08
- I got a red 'leaf village' headband (Yay!)
- I lost one of Sakura's gloves... somewhere (but I found a headband, so I'm happy)
- I got a lot of photos taken of my friends & I - both as Sakura and as Rinoa
- I got to be in 2 group 'Naruto' photoshoots and 1 'Final Fantasy' photoshoot
- Hill bought me a little Rinoa and a little Sakura figurine from the Dealer's Room
- I got to fight over a Sasuke ('Ship' version!) with other Sakuras (during one of the Naruto photoshoots), a couple Narutos, and an Orochimaru
- My friends & I saw Monica Rial (voice actress) in the Sheraton hotel lobby late last night & got our pictures taken with her (she's so nice!)
- I mutilated my jeans (well... cut most of the legs off) for the sake of cosplay
- I got Colleen Clinkenbeard (another voice actress) to autograph the cover of my 'Fullmetal Alchemist' Season 1, Part 1 DVD set at the LAST possible minute (she was about to leave the table soon - she's also wicked nice!)
- I got dipped backwards by a female rocker Naruto (again, photoshoot)
- I got a lot of compliments on Rinoa's weapon/prop, the 'Shooting Star'
- And much more!

I'm sure I'll be a lot more descriptive when my brain isn't so mushy, but for now - I need sleep, lol. I have to get to Easter Sunday mass at the chapel next to the Hynes Convention Center tomorrow morning, and it's gonna be hectic from there on preparing for the Cosplay Chess match to watch Chris as Sesshomaru 'fight'. Woot! More to come later!

PS - It was very nice to meet you, [info]stebia!!!  ^___^

Anime Boston, Part 1

Kt Anime

Yesterday went well! 'Dorothy's Boutique' ended up being completely awesome. I think everyone should go there if they have the chance! They have all kinds of costume stuff at good prices, and - yes! - they had not one, but a few different pink wigs there! And they didn't cost an arm & a leg!  ::halleluia chorus plays::  The drawback: They didn't have a LIGHT pink wig without bangs, so I had to get a hot pink one. But no biggie, I was just thrilled to have one! The sales girl was soooooo nice! She let me try a couple on, gave me a few tips for keeping hair under a wig, & she was just terrific! A+! So I paid the 30-something dollars & went on my way a VERY satisfied cosplayer.

I had 'lunch' at a McDonald's down the street. I put lunch in quotation marks b/c I ordered a 'Mighty Kids Meal' ( ::rolls her eyes:: ), but the cashier didn't understand 100% of my English & gave me just 6 McNuggets & a sm. soda (which I wanted anyway) instead. Rather than make waves, b/c it really wasn't a big deal, I ate it.

Then I went to the Sheraton and, longer story short, waited for Hill & Chris to arrive. And luckily, it wasn't too long of a wait! Oh man, I was sooooooo excited to see them! We got into our room, dropped our stuff, & then went to Pre-Registration for Anime Boston. We were in line for kind of a while (at least an hour, if not 1 1/2 hours), so it kinda pushed our plans back a bit (but it's okay, I loved just hanging out with them!).

Then we got on the subway to the Harvard Sq. stop and went to Tokyo Kid (for anyone who doesn't know, it's an anime store). I was hoping to find a red 'leaf village' (Naruto) headband to go with my Sakura costume & wig, but - no dice. Tokyo Kid is gonna have a booth set up in the Dealer's room later today though, so I'll try then. Hill ended up buying me a mini Rinoa figure! She's so sweet!  *^__^*

Speaking of Rinoa..... guess what ELSE I forgot to bring with me! Her skirt!!!  ::punches herself::  ARRGGHH!!!  ::sighs::  No matter... I'm gonna wander the Pru mall a little this morning (Hill & Chris are still asleep right now) to try & find a denim skirt. I was gonna get one @ Urban Outfitters last night b/c there was one across the street from 'The Garage' mall (where Tokyo Kid was), but it would have cost me $48 or $58!!! Yeah... that's just ridiculous. I'll figure out something else. Besides, we're not doing our Final Fantasy cosplay under TOMORROW (Saturday), so it'll give me time to look.

The opening ceremonies for AB don't start until 11am, and the dealer's room doesn't open until 12pm, so that gives me a little time this morning. But at any rate - I'd better take my shower & get going. The sooner I get ready, the sooner I can have breakfast & shop, and come back to the room for Hill & Chris. Okay, I'm off!  ::runs::

PS - My Rinoa weapon/prop, the 'Shooting Star', got kinda banged up while I was carrying down windy Mass Ave towards the Sheraton. Oy. It's not in HORRIBLE condition, but a couple of the 'wings' are becoming unglued, so I'll have to fix that before tomorrow. Fun fun.  *-__-

NEMC/Tufts Medical Center Job...maybe?

  • Mar. 20th, 2008 at 12:12 PM
BatmanTripStairs
So when I was finished with my internship at Tufts Medical Center, 'XXXX' (the internship supervisor) in the Dermatology department informed me that there were two positions available for a Surgical Technician - one part-time, one full-time.

I wasn't originally going to apply b/c I wanted to work closer to home (Boston is an hour away from Franklin), and it costs a buttload to commute Monday through Friday ($223 a month for a monthly pass!). On the other hand, I really should take what I can get, b/c I don't know when another opportunity may present itself. And I already know the staff, and they know me, so that helps too. Plus I'd probably be making a pretty good amount of money.

SO - I finally broke down and submitted my application online today. It'll probably be only a matter of time until I hear from them, whether I get the job or not.

.......

...Sometimes I think I'm a great candidate for peptic ulcers.

NOW - on to 'Dorothy's Boutique'! (see previous post)

.....I was working on my cosplay/AB stuff all night yesterday. By the time I got to shower & go to bed, it was about 12:30am. I had to get up @ 6am to get to my classes this morning. I got all the way to Boston w/ my suitcase & 'Shooting Star' (in a garbage bag, so no one would see it & so it wouldn't get wet/gross). I was out of the Back Bay Station & just crossing Copley Square, when suddently it hit me: I forgot to pack my pink Sakura wig.

!#$%^&*%^&*!#$!!!!!!!!

.....I'm better now than I was, but I was sooooooooo mad at myself earlier. If they weren't already crappy, I'd have punched myself in the kidneys. I knew I was going to forget to pack something! And I'm not about to throw 2 hours of my life away going all the way home (1 hour on train), going to my house, grabbing the wig, & coming allll the way back. URGH!!!  ::tantrum::

::deep breath::  So... after my classes are over, I'm gonna try to go to 'Dorothy's Boutique' on Mass. Ave - hopefully they'll have a cheap pink wig I can customize there. Oooh... I hope I hope I hope...  ::crosses her fingers::  I've never been there before, so hopefully I won't walk all the way over there for nothing.

Ugh... I can't wait to see Chris & Hill, b/c this is not a good start.....

ANIME BOSTON IS COMING!!!!!

BelleKH2

The Good News: Chris got into the AB Cosplay Chess Match, and Anime Boston is in two days. YAY!!!

The Bad News: I'm still working on stuff for both my Rinoa & my Sakura costume at this point.

The Ugly: 1) I don't think I'm gonna be able to complete Rinoa's weapon (the 'Shooting Star') - not b/c of the time running out, but b/c I made it a little too big, and it's most likely not gonna fit in even my large rolling suitcase.  ::imitates season 3 Blackadder::  "D*mn!!!"  I may just leave it 1/2 done to fit in my suitcase, and finish hot gluing it when I get there. Ugh... man, what a pain.....
     2) I still have a bunch of little things to do for my Sakura costume, and time is VERY quickly running out! If I get really desperate (which I'm beginning to be!), I may just end up hot gluing the d*mn thing together - which I don't want to do, because it might look cheap and it'll certainly feel cheap, but... I want it to be done! Waah!  ::poutpout::
     3) I'm gonna have to bring my huge-*$$ rolling suitcase to Boston b/c of my costumes & stuff - and I have 2 classes to go to Thursday morning! Urgh!!! So I can either look retarded & wheel my mini-hearse into my classes with me..... or go to the Sheraton, see if they'll hold my suitcase for me for a few hours, probably be late for my first class, finish my 2nd class at about 12:20pm, go back to the Sheraton, and wait for Chris & Hill to arrive.

.............

::sighs::
.....Once again, nothing is ever easy.

Sephiroth bullsh*t

Ugh... this has been a very annoying morning.

I was supposed to meet with 'XXXX' from Tufts Medical Center this morning, so that she could give me my externship papers (my final evaluation, & a signed paper saying that I'd finished 120 hrs., etc).

She was supposed to have them ready for me on Wednesday morning, but she was 'too busy'. She told me that she'd get them to me sometime on Thursday. Thursday came & went, and - big shock - she was 'too busy'. She asked me if I could come back Friday morning, when she wouldn't be busy (supposedly). I told her that I had one long class & an exit interview with my school  on Friday , but she said that if I could come first thing in the morning, it shouldn't be a problem. Fine.

I checked in with my teacher this morning, walked the 6-10 min. walk to Back Bay station, got on the Orange Line to Oak Grove, and got off at the next stop - New England Medical Center. I took the elevator in the hospital up to the 3rd floor of the 'Floating Hospital' section, walked to the Biewend building, took another elevator to the 14th floor, and got off to wait for XXXX (...annoying to read all that, isn't it? Now imagine doing it). I waited for her about 1/2 an hour, and - HUGE surprise - she never shows. So I wrote her a note, leaving out the pissed off mood I was in now, and went back through the hospital, down 2 elevators, took the subway back to Back Bay, and walked the 6-10 minutes back to school.

::stews angrilly for a moment, cartoonish 'anger lines' and 'vein pulses' coming off of her::

I might not even mind this situation so much, obnoxious as it is - except that this same woman has already done this sort of thing to me like, two or three times. It's wicked freaking unprofessional!
To this woman:

I realize that you have a job to do, and that job (may) keep you very busy. Fine. Some jobs do that. But THIS (extern/intern relations) is part of you job too. And - sorry for the bad language - you S*CK at it.
I'll ignore the fact that I didn't agree with how you evaluated me & Noelle (this other girl from Gibbs externing w/ me), especially since you weren't around for most of what we were learning/doing with our externship. You didn't see what we learned, what we performed, how well we did it, or how we interacted with others - so giving us a smaller # (rated 1-5) just b/c you personally didn't see us doing certain skills is idiotic. But like I said - I'll ignore this, b/c for the most part, you didn't grade us too harshly.
However, on several occasions, you have been 'too busy' to do what you were supposed to do for us when you were supposed to do it. And I realize that your 'normal' job skills should come first, but as I said - THIS is part of your job too. If you can't do it right, than find someone else to do it who will do it right.

Noelle and I are people too. And even though we're only 'lowly externs' and not actual employees of Tufts Medical Center, we are still people - people who deserve as much respect as anyone else. And not having our needed materials prepared and ready when we need them, and wasting our/my time (which is just as precious as yours, by the way), is not only rude and inconsiderate - it's unprofessional and a sign of disrespect. Don't tell me you're going to do something or be somewhere, and then not do it.
I've now lost any respect for you or your job that I could have had. And not only that - now I have to work around your schedule - AGAIN (what's convenient for you, not for me), to pick up these stupid externship papers that should have been ready on WEDNESDAY.

Once again, you S*CK. A lot. Immensely.

No respect & unsincerely yours,
Someone who you've ticked off one too many times.

Last time I checked, this was America.

Students should be able to go to school without worrying if they will be gunned down or blown up on their way to class. They shouldn't have to talk to their family members upset & worrying if they'd ever hear their voice or see them again. Their families shouldn't have to worry about if they'll get a phone call, asking them to identify a body that might be a potential family member.

Whether it was true, or just a cruel joke..... sometimes people in this country truly disgust me.

I got on the train to Boston this morning and checked my e-mail (they have WiFi on some of the train cars now. Yes, I am that type of person.  ::rolls hey eyes:: Anyway...). To my surprise, I saw that 'QQCosplay' had already e-mailed me back with a reply on the Sakura costume situation:
(Note: I did not make a mistake in typing the following message, this is the exact message they sent me. Just FYI.)

<<Thank you for the feedback. This is the first negative feedback for this costume.  We are so sorry that you are not happy the costume.
1) The glove should be regular glove. We must send you a wrong pair.

If you can provide me the following measurements, I can define the problem with M size.>>

Now, I'm not gonna lie - I did consider this... for about 1/2 of a second. Then my common sense slapped me, and I came back down to reality.

Rather than have them 'fix' the costume, possibly be in the same boat that I am right now for a second time, and pull my hair out - I decided to just fix it myself. At least that way,
1) I'll have no one to blame but myself for any future costume mistakes
2) I know that (for the most part) I'm more likely to be satisfied with the result
3) I won't be wearing the 'Preggers Sakura' version of the costume to Anime Boston.

Sigh. Everything has to be a struggle.

((If nothing else, I at least have to give 'QQCosplay' the fact that they replied extremely fast and politely offered to fix the problem. ...It would have been easier to hate them, lol.))
